one finds the Château Turcaud with its 45 hectares of
vines, onthe silicy-gravelled and argillaceous grounds of the
slopes wich constitute the ideal soil.
The Chateau Turcaud is open to
you for sale of wines within the property from Monday to Friday
from 8h30 to 12h00 and then from 14h00 to 18h00. Saturday on
request. Closed Sunday. |

Sauve Majeure |

is a rural district of 1335 inhabitants.Its
name comes from the latin "Silva Major"this means
"the large forest".
Located at the Southeast of the Gironde at 27 kms of Bordeaux
and 20 kms of Libourne.
It's the headquarter of the Wine Trade Union of the "Entre-deux-mers"
on the site of the abbay.
The surronding lands are hilly.There are many areas clasified
"AOC", "Entre-deux-Mers", "Bordeaux".
The wine production is the main activity of this municipality.
The cultural patrimony is composed of several important historical
edifices.
The Benedictine Abbey
established by Gerard de Corbie in 1079 is one of the biggest
abbeys of the South-West.Its ruins give evidence of its importance.
It's an important stopping place on the pilgrim route of St
Jacques de Compostelle. In the XII century, it accomodated about
300 monks.
After the Revolution it welcomed a Jesuit company during the
XX th century, and then it received the first Normal School
of teacher in Gironde.Nowadays, it's an important example of
the Roman Art in Aquitaine.
The St Pierre Church
is located in the middle of a triangulary cemetery, marked out
by 3 crosses of the XVth and the XVIth centuries.
It's one of the most beautiful church in Gironde.
Built in 1083 by St Gerard, it was restored in the ending XII.
It's an edifice of transition between the Roman and the Gothic
trends.
The decoration is remarkable, full of paintings.The Abbey and
the St Pierre Church are classified as historical monuments,
and belong to the Mundial Patrimony of the UNESCO.
The Prison
is the smallest in France, it's composed of only 2 cells.
The front is symetric, and the window opening is stopped by
a stone cartouche with the inscription "Municipal Prison".

14th, 1859.
